A striking new artwork by Banksy has appeared outside the High Court in London.
The mural, first spotted on Monday morning (September 8), depicts a judge swinging a gavel as they strike a figure lying on the ground, clutching a blood-stained placard.
Banksy later confirmed authorship via Instagram, posting a photograph of the piece with the caption: “Royal Courts of Justice. London.” [
Soon after, further images shared on social media revealed that the work had been boarded up, with security guards stationed nearby to protect it.
Banksy has not explained the meaning behind his latest work – and, true to form, he rarely comments on his own art – but many have interpreted the mural as a response to the more than 900 arrests made during a pro-Palestine rally in London over the weekend.
The arrests followed demonstrations in support of Palestine Action, which was formally listed as a proscribed terror organisation in July after two members entered a British military base and defaced aircraft with red paint.
